Updating domain DNS settings
To change the DNS settings for a website domain, you will need to access the control panel for the domain’s registrar (the company where you registered the domain name – this may be 123-reg, GoDaddy, Namesco, FastHosts, or similar) or the DNS hosting service you are using. Here are the general steps to change DNS settings for a domain:
- Log in to the control panel for your domain registrar or DNS hosting service.
- Locate the DNS settings or DNS management section for the domain you want to edit.
- Find the option to edit or change the DNS records for your domain.
- Add an
A Record
and in the ‘Points to’ field enter the IP address we have supplied you, leaving the ‘Host Name’ field empty (If you are required to enter a value in the Host Name field, use the@
(at) symbol). - Repeat the process to add a second
A Record
, enterwww
(3 W’s) in the ‘Host Name’ field, and enter the same IP address in the ‘Points to’ field. - Save the changes.
It is important to note that changes to DNS settings can take some time to propagate across the internet, so it may take a while for the new settings to take effect. This usually completes within 24-48 hours.
